Default Elusive Radiator Hose

Hi
My grandad has a B reg (1985) 340 Volvo. Recently he had a problem with his radiator and the solution is that a replacement bottom radiator hose is required. I went to the local Volvo dealer and they supplied me with a Hose which they said was the correct one (Part No 3207963). However, when comparing it to the old one the hose is not the same in the dimensions - its too big, and therefore cannot be fitted. As Volvo cant supply the correct hose I am trying to source one from else where. I am not sure what the part number of the hose (the one that is being replaced was). It was either 3298632-5 or 3285477-0). According to Volvo these part numbers no longer exist and have been replaced by the above part number for the replacement hose we got which doesnt fit.

Can help with this? Any thought appreciated.
Many thanks in advance!

Default RE: Elusive Radiator Hose

Hi Blondie

If the Volvo dealer has sold you a pup I`d take it back and get a refund at least. Take the old hose so they can check it against what they are trying to supply. I have had trouble with their parts depts before - took them about 4 attempts to supply the correct coolant temperature sender for my car once - only getting it right when I photocopied the diagram from my workshop manual and outlined the relevant part with a big red pen.

You do not specify if it is a 1.4 or 1.7 engine though as far as I am aware, the same radiator is used in both variants - which way is it too big? Too long? Diameter too large?

If it is a little too long it may be OK as long as it doesn`t kink when fitted or it may be designed to push a little further onto the stubs than the original.

You could try Euro Car parts (I have used them before and found them excellent, though they only list one bottom hose for this year on a 1.4 (you can e-mail them and they will try to source unlisted parts.

They are on www.europarts.com.

Will
Thanks for your reply. We dont have the old radiator hose any more (long story!). However the hose we did get was too long and the diameter was too small at the end which connects to the radiator. His engine is a 1.4. Will try the supplier you recommend!
Cheers
Jo
