460 GLS Auto

Hi, I have just brought a H reg Volvo 460 auto and I am well pleased with it, however could someone let me know if the letters and numbers next to the auto gearstick indicating drive / park etc should light up and if so how i change the bulb.

Hi..mines a facelift model but I guess its the same. There should be a light under the gearshift letters. Mine blew years ago and from memory, you start by carefully prising out the plastic rectangular bezel from around the gearstick and keep removing things until you come to the lampholder. The main moulded console surrounding the stick has to be removed as well. None of it is difficult, just a bit fiddly. Cheers. Sarumboy.

I have a 1991 'J' 440 auto and after reading your thread it got me thinking. The symols on my gear stick dont light up. However i have been to have a look at it today and i cant find no lamp holder under the symbols or any wires heading in that direction.

I did however discover that the lamp for the ciggratte lighter had blown and it is just above the point where i think light would pass to light up the symbols. I will get a bulb for it tomorrow and see if it will light up. I do however think they should light up as if you hold a light under the gear selector the symbols will light up and the gear you are in i.e. 'D' would be in red. If however they dont, i can see me putting in a light to light them up.
