Calling the dealer to ask if the recall that was issued 14 years ago was completed would be a wasted exercise. The engine is already destroyed. Volvo aren't going to cover it.

Its well known that these cars suffer from belt failure. Its been happening for years.

It has been happening more since about 2017 when the 2010 and later cars have become neglected by their second and third owners and the aux belt not replaced every 54000 miles which is part of the volvo service schedule. Also the 108000 mile services are being missed or not done properly with volvo parts which is when all the belts rollers and tensioners are changed.

It's easy to check if your Volvo has any outstanding recalls that are still to be done. My 1997 Volvo 850 has a live recall which was supposed to be done but Covid lockdown caused it to be cancelled and I've not re-booked it in again

You can also check for outstanding recalls on the mot history checker online. Put your reg in, click on "outstanding recalls" and it shows you if there's any.
