Not excessively high to be fair, engine is PSA and generally reliable, although the DPF can be problematic and expensive with fluid required and complete replacement at (75K?) intervals (assume it is the same on the V70 as the S40/V50 etc)

I'd keep the V70... V50 is quite a step down in quality.

If your example has an impeccable service history, however, then it might be worth it as long as you don't pay too much. Out of curiosity, I checked Autotrader for Ford Mondeo 2.0 diesels with > 200K miles and found that the highest mileage example was 237,764 miles. Then I checked Volvos of all models for diesels of 2.0 or greater with > 200K miles and found that - with one exception - they all had Volvo engines. The exception was an old Audi 5-cylinder diesel with 220,000 miles. Not one PSA example. The highest mileage Volvo engine here was 275,862 miles in a 2003 V70 D5 manual. Having said all of that, I did find a 2010 Peugeot Expert Tepee 2.0 HDi taxi being sold with 394,183 miles, so go figure. By the way, has your example had the clutch and dual mass flywheel replaced yet? If not then you'll probably need to factor that into your decision. |

A service history of regular oil changes might give some assurance?
My old 53 plate V70 D5 had five service books, with over 50 stamps, but then it did have 630K miles on the clock. |

I decided against it for a couple of reasons, including the mileage check as above. I think in bangernomics sometimes better the devil you know! Going to wait and spend more on nicer example or possibly v60.. The Peugeot diesel doesn’t surprise me that engine (apparently) is bullet proof. The rest of the car probably isn’t but all cheap bits to treat as disposable! I made a 2002 Peugeot expert into a camper - every bit rattled, doors didn’t close, locks needed replacing etc etc but engine (1.9 na!) pulled us over the alps without an issue! Thanks for all comments, helped me make my decision. Ps. Rear view mirror tells you which compass direction your travelling in! I nearly bought it based on this, is it standard? |

The 2ltr PSA unit is solid enough, the electronics become problematic as they age with injector failures, engine management issues, DPF failures and turbo failures. V50 repairs can be expensive which usually makes disposing of them more attractive. A set of injectors can be worth more than the car as is clutch and CEM failures. The actual body and interior are just as good as the S60/V70 apart from there’s less under body protection around the spare wheel tub, rear cross member which results in corrosion outbreaks.
Manufacturers don’t want cars to last forever, it’s not profitable TT

I'd personally steer clear, but as long as you do a thorough check for any expensive sounding issues it should be fine. Give it a blast up the motorway once a week and it'll be running forever. |
