Stop start no wipers?

Hello all,

new joiner here so please be gentle

Was driving to work today (120 miles) and in some heavy traffic start stop kicked in as normal but after about 6 stop cycles refused the car refused to start. No lights, hazards didnt work etc. Got out and pushed car off main road into layby and did the on/off thing plenty of times but no joy. RAC attended and suspected main battery so I went to local store to buy one and got it fitted.

Thought all was good, mechanic said he had coded the new battery to the car but on start up I get an error message saying start stop system needs service. Turned said system off and continued on way to work now three hours late.

Got onto motorway into lots of heavy spray due to weather and went to turn wipers on but nothing. Rear wiper works, I cant select auto wiper, screen wash works. Have checked the fuse (front engine bay left side, no18, 20Amp?) but looks okay, swapped with a known good fuse and still no wipers.

Phoned my home Volvo to ask for some advice and was told £132 for diagnostic to find out whats wrong

Any ideas at all please? 2016 V40 D4 R Design Lux. No faults at all until this morning.
