Yours is the 4 cylinder VEA? Just curious if you slip it into Sport mode is it still doing it?

There may be other things going on here too, as yourself and others have eluded to, so would be wise to also check over the various intake and boost hoses/pipework and perhaps consider cleaning the EMAP sensor, its pipe and the Intake Manifold sensor.

I also discovered recently, whilst cleaning the EGR and cooler on mine, the plastic fresh air in pipe, the one that runs from the MAF sensor to the turbo, had separated at the join for the intake manifold breather. This would allow for a degree of unmetered air to be drawn in, as it's downstream of the MAF, and throw out actual and desired values. Just something to check over. I'll post up a seperate thread soon and include some pics.

In the meantime have a read of Tenuta's thread: Wow - changed auto gearbox oil and now like new. At time of service last year 31256775 plus 31256774 is what was used in mine.

Yeah, that’s fair enough.

I think your car needs JWS3324, known as AW-1.

JWS3309 was used in the older cars.

Yes 4 cylinder VEA. I wasn't actually aware there was a Sport mode, just Googled it, will give it a go and see if any different.

Thanks for the input and totally agree, could be a variety of things going on here, none severe enough yet to throw EML. I read a couple of threads on the EMAP sensor and pipe this afternoon as people were reporting juddering engine with that problem, so definitely going to pop the sensor off at the weekend and see how bad it looks.

Ah, I clearly need to do some more research ! Thanks

Edit: The Millers oil meets both 3309 and 3324

Just read this thread and looked up garages with EDT and hilariously the Volvo specialist I went to today got one of these machines in 2015.. So, they've either got rid of it in the meantime (fair enough that was 9 years ago), or they just refuse to do Volvos, as they didn't mention it to me while I was there.

Edit; Just phoned the other garage listed in Leeds area and they told me they have recently returned their EDT machine. Back to the sump dump idea.

Sump dump works fine. Just needs to be done a few times for best results.

Sure, just time and effort that I would have rather outsourced

Hi i bought 15 ltrs of That Millers oil and it is the correct spec . The gearbox takes 7.5ltrs
Each dump on mine was 2.8 ltrs so I did five drains with a drive of 8 to 10 miles between
The differnce was apparent from the first refill even my wife noticed the improvement
Doing it yourself means you know the jobs been done right
All you need is a decent measuring jug that holds at least 4ltrs and a funnel with a long neck and of course the oil temp needs to be around 60deg when you set the level .
I did not bother with resetting anything on vida .
I intend to do a couple of drains this summer just to see how clean the oil is

Well, you still can, but its not going to be cheap for a garage to do multiple drain and fills. There's plenty of Volvo Specialists out there, but you may have to travel. Plus, a garage usually only does one drain and fill anyway. The price you got of £190 will be likely 3 litres of fluid and the rest is labour - One drain and fill. Don't be under the impression that for £190 you'll have crystal clear fluid, that's not the case. Transmission fluid isn't cheap and hourly rates in garages aren't either. Its easily £60 per hour at a specialist nowadays and you can double that at a dealership.

When you do it yourself, you'll do a few sump dump's and get much better results. The garage won't do that.
