Mine (the non genuine) also worked fine for a long period until some time ago when it started to do this. It might be a new "feature" introduced by one of the recent updates that triggered this behavior.

I’m pretty sure you’re right, I can’t think of anything else that might have changed.

I read recently that Apple built Logic into a Firmware update, and it can detect when a non Apple cable is used, don't know how true that is but could explain the problem. I have a decent brand of cable that disconnects every know and again. I noticed that if it was playing music and I moved the phone it would disconnect. Looking at the connection port there was a lot of wiggle with the connector, a lot more than when I compared it to a Apple cable, so manufacturing tolerances may not be as tight as the original cables.

Genuine Apple cables for iPhones with a Lightning connector (ie pre iPhone 15) have a chip in the plug that Apple devices use to determine that the cable is genuine. Some third party cables are certified by Apple and others try to mimic the chip, not always successfully. It's quite possible that iOS updates could alter how a third party cable works.

I don't know if Apple USB-C cables have a proprietary chip in addition to the mandatory chips on some but not all USB-C cables.
