When mine gets dirty, the idle would drop a few hundreds then bounce back normal while coming to a stop. These need be cleaned on a regular basis even when it doesn't look too dirty, I'd do it once/year or so

Little Mucky Valve
First time i’ve looked at this valve and it does seem a little mucky:
I’ll give it a clean and take the car for a careful run over the next couple of days |

Cleaned & Checked

Also located the CEM under the steering wheel on the drivers side (RHD car). The Drivers side has never had water ingress and/or pools of water on the driver's footwell. The CEM was dry as a bone, with a few cobwebs too! I also took out the two relays (Ref# 9441161) pictured in the CEM above, checked the contacts and re-seated. No issue from the CEM as far as I can see: I've driven the car on a few short journeys (5-10 miles) and all seems fine; but of course, this is an intermittent fault! Mileage circa 68,750 miles so let's see when it re-occurs |

I've done a good couple of thousand miles since the last post, including a road trip to Austria & back (Skiing) and had no issues.
Just before the last post, I did replace the car battery as it was on the way out and let me down. I did originally think the starter motor was faulty so I reconditioned it (new brushes) and also swapped it for a known good starter Motor (also with new brushes), but it did turn out to be the battery. So perhaps, as the battery wasn't in very good condition when I experience the problem, this may have contributed to the engine cut out? I'd be surprised as there were not battery related warning lights coming on (on their own) and the alternator is still charging the battery (but the battery wasn't holding it for long). Anyway, no definitive fix; accepting I've tinkered with the starter motor and replaced the battery! |
