Default "alarm system service required"

I had the alternator replaced yesterday, now it comes up with "ALARM SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED"

Any ideas?

Your spanking new alternator may have fried your almost dying rechargeable alarm battery.....or it may just be coincidence
Whichever, if you can't vouch for the alarm battery being replaced in the last 5 or 6 years, it's time to get it out.

Due to the alarm battery going bad in my V70 and discharging my main battery, I removed the alarm fuse. The alarm does not work, but it does not discharge my battery when the car sits. However, I get the message "alarm system service required".

Probably the alarm battery on yours is bad, but if it is not, but if the alarm fuse has been removed or blew, then this could be the cause of your message. In my V70 the alarm fuse is in the panel at the end of the dash. Other years it is in the panel under the dash driver side.
