Default HELP! Clutch Pedal issue

Hi all,
Not had to post for a long time due to my car being A1, although halfway through a 400mile round trip yesterday my clutch pedal decided that is was going to stop returning and felt much softer.

I can still change gear but in order for me to get pedal back to normal position I have to flick it up with my foot for the last 2 inches roughly so that Cruise works for instance.
There is no funny noises and I have checked my fluid reservoir and its on the level for brakes and clutch, so I am not thinking it is a slave issue, I also think the clutch has plenty of bite still, albeit its hard to tell given the current feedback from the pedal as opposed to how it was before the issue.

I have searched forum for possible answers, but there is so many clutch related issues i'm getting somewhat confused. For instance clutch return spring is mentioned a fair bit, but when I look at mine its still intact and appears to be working when you depress pedal fully.

TiA

When I had this on my 850 T5 it turned out to be a corroded and leaking hydraulic hose to the slave cylinder, located under the battery, worth checking.

Thanks, but I'm not loosing fluid which would indicate this.

My fluid level in the reservoir never appeared to move either. It's a big reservoir since it covers brakes and clutch, it was just moist on the clutch line, not enough to really drip or be easily noticed.

Smile clutch feel

hi skye,

the clutch shares half of the brake fluid reservoir, so it would drop to the level of the divider if you were losing fluid from the csc (try shining a torch thru the reservoir or rocking it around a bit as with new fluid its hard to see at times),, having said that it might well be the slave cylinder as i had mine go at around 80k miles, is yours on its original clutch or has it been replaced some miles ago ?, an easy way to see if your loosing fluid from the csc is to remove the plastic undertray and see if any brake fluid coming out of the slot at the bottom of the bellhousing, ill post a pic of where i mean in a sec... (also a pic of the CSC for info)

Well, I spent a little time bleeding the clutch line last night, and appeared to have cured the issue, but still somewhat bemused as to why it happened in the first place?

Keep an eye on it. Possible slave cylinder leak. Because of the location (in the G/Box bellhousing) its impossible to detect a small leak. It will just soak into the clutch dust around it.

I will, but lack of fluid loss from reservoir would suggest its ok.
