I had something similar on our '06 D5 where the clutch pedal just went right to the carpet and the clutch stayed engaged (by engaged I mean transmitting drive, to be clear, like the pedal wasn't pressed).

this was the master cylinder flipping it's seals, no fluid loss & sharply pulling the pedal up restored normal operation. This also started to happen days before 800miles of driving, thankfully it didn't flip the seals again during the trip but did another couple of times while I saved up for the new clutch master.

The actual job wasn't too godawful, just a clip-in hose, connecting rod and 2 nuts to undo. The worst part was fiddling the thing out from under the bonnet, think I may have done better removing the upper engine/strut brace and bracket! Bleeding was OK though, better than some I've done that refused to prime without a pressure bleeder.

Mileage at the time was about 194k

Ok, so after another long run, it has done it again, i.e not returning to normal position, no loss of fluid at all, as I checked level before and after the journey. Am I missing something, I expect bleeding it again will cure it, but I am loosing confidence and think some will give up the ghost soon.
