XC70 LED rear marker lights
Anyone know how to replace the 4 tiny red rear side LED marker lights on 2006 XC70? They seem to be part of rear light assembly.
Thanks. |

They never need replacing as they're LEDS and therefore designed to run for thousands of constant hours before they start to dim. They should never blow. Sounds like you have a fault.
If you want to replace them then I would guess that it's the whole light assembly. Are they not working?? If both sides are not working then it'll be a fault common to both sides as it'll be extremely unusual for 8 LEDs to go at once.

They are actually the little diode lights that are embedded onto a PCB. To get to them take the rear clustor off and then unscrew the complete PCB from the lens.
I would assume that they are available as replacement parts from Volvo, but as has been said - if they are all out then I would look for a problem elsewhere in the wiring! |

I also think that this must be a wiring problem. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the rear lights as I assume that there is a common feed from one cluster to the other(2006 XC70).
Thanks for help so far. |

Is it just the led's that are not working, I take it that the tail lights are working ok. How about the front side markers? It sounds like these have beened turned off by the dealer. I think the side markers were fitted by Volvo for the us market so dependent on what country the car is sold to they can be enabled or disabled by the dealer. Might be worth checking before pulling things apart.

V70 LED rear side repeaters
On my '05 V70 the nearside ones didn't work. When I dismantled the unit it had water in! Unfortunately the reflecting surface is now tarnished and coming off as well.
I dried it off but couldn't get the leds working. A new circuit board/unit from Rufe is £45 - I couldn't see any markings on the old leds but they measured about 3mm diameter set in a square white plastic housing, so off to Maplins today and buy four 12v 3mm red leds for £2.60. I drilled straight through the old leds with a 3mm bit and glued the new ones in place, connected them up and they work - but they're far too dim compared with the originals in the other side. I may go and get 5mm tomorrow, but this time I'll buy one and fit it to compare brightness first of all!
