XC60 keyfob v Indesit Washing machine
To set the scene, it was an idyllic day, we had finished the enchiladas and tequila beer made by yours truly and had retired to the sitting room for the evening. My wife, who cannot sit still for a minute, started to do the ironing and I settled into my latest book. After a few minutes engrossed in the latest Game of Thrones, I was hit on the head with a XC60 keyfob travelling at high speed from the direction of the ironing board. Looking up I was greeted with derision normally reserved for the england football team.
"You've washed the key!" came the cry. "oh dear" said I and left it at that, fumbling for my phone to find a way to resurrect said key. Having scoured google, I proceeded to take the fob apart, pat it with tissue to take away the surface water, then put it in a bag with some rice overnight, praying that the great god Basmati would come to my aid. This morning, after checking all was dry, I reassembled the key and approached the 4 day old XC60 with trepidation. Would it work or would I have to face the embarrassment of going to the Volvo dealer and explaining that their quality control should include the washing of keyfobs in a washing machine ? I crept up on the Volvo, closing my eyes and praying the the Swedish gods of old and.... I heard a click followed by a whirr. Opening my eyes I saw the mirrors had moved! Hallelujah all was saved !!! On a serious note kids, dont mix keyfobs and washing machines. I dread to think of the cost of a new one. If you do as I did then the concensus is not to try it but take it apart, dry it out and then reassemble and try. I hope you are as lucky as I am if you do. |

It's great to hear a story about an incident rather than just 'I washed the keyfob'.
Glad to hear it ended well although if you were doing the ironing yourself you could have kept the little secret from your wife........ - you know she'll be looking to bring that up again when you next p**s her off........... Although all's well that ends well. Oh!.....and check out the exhaust for suds as you don't know what odd little insights your keyfob might have learnt (and passed on the the ECU) after its dunking.........revenge is sweet..

I would be very annoyed with the wife, she should have checked the pockets, before doing the washing 🚿.

To answer Tem, if the good lady had deemed fit to do the washing I could have castigated her roundly from the moral high ground. Sadly, in a fit of what can only described as temporary insanity, I was responsible for washing the bundle of clothes in which the keyfob hid itself. I could have passed the blame onto one of the offspring had I not, in a loud and proud voice, proclaimed that I had washed the clothes (without the aid of instructions I might add) to the good lady on her return from work. Pride really does come before a fall (or in this case a soaking) |
