Front discs and pads - which ones?
Got a bit of a wobble on my front brakes and it’s getting worse so I’m going to replace the discs and pads.
There seems to be some different disc types and sizes available - any quick guide as to what I need? 97 2.3 Turbo auto - has ABS. Cheers!

Get your tape measure and vernier gauge out Rob. Measure the diameter and the thickness of the discs then look on ebay for the right size. I had this caper about 18 months ago with the front discs on my 760 - 285mm dia x 22m thick, ventilated.
Tried ordering a pair on ebay, submitted my reg as requested ("We won't process the order without it") and got a phone call from the seller insisting the discs i had ordered wouldn't fit. despite being listed as the same measurements as i had taken. They insisted my discs were 302mm dia x 26mm ventilated at £120+ per disc! I told them to just refund me and cancel the transaction, a few days later a pair of NOS discs appeared, right size for £20 delivered. Ordered, fitted (with new pads), job done! The big problem is Volvo fitted such a variety of discs and calipers depending on spec of the car, whether ABS or not and if some clever article has changed the front legs because of duff shocks and simply used the brakes from the donor vehicle as well, you might not even have the same both sides! IF you measure what you've got and make sure they're both the same then order by size, rather than model, you should be ok - in theory anyway!

Scooby's right about the variety : measure every dimension!
I get the garage blokes to order them once we've found the exact sizes, Pagid brand usually turn up and the price has always been great!

Check the slide pins in the calipers if they are sticking or stuck this can cause the wobble under braking, I know, ive been there,

Yes, there are three different sizes.
'Big' Brake Disc Thickness [mm]: 22 Diameter [mm]: 287 Height [mm]: 56 'Jumbo' #1 Brake Disc Thickness [mm]: 26 Diameter [mm]: 280 Height [mm]: 56.3 'Jumbo' #2 Brake Disc Thickness [mm]: 26 Diameter [mm]: 280 Height [mm]: 50.3 You don't need to take the disc off so it's not too bad, the height is the tricky one but I managed to get the right one with a tape measure and eyeballing it. It would be super easy with a ruler against where the wheel mounts. Yours will most probably be Jumbo #1.

Thanks for the help, yes I’ll take the wheel off to measure it.
Thanks for the tip on the pins, I’ll see if I need the new discs when I take the wheel off, may as well replace the pads if I’m taking he Caliper off anywa.

I believe it's from the outer face of the disc to the wheel-mounting face of the disc.
Also i'm fairly sure there is a 262mm diameter variant, 19mm thick - i had those on my last 740GLE, whether it was carried on to the 940 i'm not entirely sure.
