b4 you go rushing off,
was the battery light, lit fully, on the dash b4 starting the engine ? if not then it could just be the ign bulb which needs to be in the field circuit for it too charge.
Ie--- the battery light should illuminate fully before the engine starts IF NOT the alternator does not have a supply to field coils to switch the alternator on and let it charge. Therefore you could fit an alternator for nothing and still have to buy the bulb !! you need to check you are getting the field connection, not just the main cable.
Also was the battery the right spec coz it is critical on these to have the right capacity (not to make it charge just for the rest the systems that are very power hungry)

the battery light did light up and go out when engine started this is why I first doubted it was the alternator. I checked and foumd voltage to the exciter wire. I Will check the battery is the correct one. I have now changed the alternator, jump started the car and she runs ok with 14.5 volts going through. Fingers crossed thats the end of that problem.

Tanks everyone that helped. :thumbs
