Default How to check MAF

Hi got a 53 T5 V70 thing is im not at all impressed with the performance seems to have bad turbo lag and when boost does come on its not that noticable. Had it on a rolling road and it produced 273BHP 380NM torque but iam doubting this as surley ths should give good performance?
Thinking MAF is goosed but dont wanna shell out a lot of money if it is not.
The car has had a brand new turbo 700 miles ago so that cant be a problem.
im comparing it to my 1998 V70 T5 which had 269BHP and had miles more performance. This car had a 3 inch exaust would that make a difference?
What can i check for on my present car? My car does seem to go better with the traction off
Thanks in advance Jimmy

Dead Simple to check ..

1. Run car "normal" (with MAF connected)

2. Unplug MAF & run again

if the car runs exactly the same with the MAF unplugged then the MAF is Goosed!!!

Before you buy MAF check the connectors if they're not corroded or loose.

Could it be the boost control solenoid?

Had that happened with my V40, very late and poor boost. Getting < 3 psi of boost.

A new boost control solenoid solved it and the new one from Volvo surprisingly is the same as that used for S80 and S60s.

Once changed the sensor element only on a previous 99 S80T6 I had several years ago and it worked ok. I was informed at that time that the sensor was the same on all Volvo maf units, its only the sensor housing that could be different. I used the one from a s70 2.4, but I dont know if that still applies. Anyway, the Volvo D5s are a far different car now to what the old S80 T6 was then.

Hi,

My 52 plate T5 is kinda similar, at low down speeds ie pulling away it seems quite energetic, however once it speeds up it doesn't seem to go quite as I think it should.

I've looked into the Boost solenoid and they're not too bad to buy so maybe that first as I'm told it can make quite a difference. Out of interest do you hear the turbo spin up on these things. I'm using to driving VW diesels where you can always here the turbo whining.
