XC70: General - Replacement keys? - Page 2

For the metallic key insert I just ordered a blank aftermarket one from ebay for £10.

Then I took the blank to a local locksmith who copied my existing one. That was a bit steep at £20 but its still significantly cheaper than £120 from Volvo.

It looks exactly like the original and I have confirmed it works on the car.

XC70.:2010.

Spent years criticising my kids for being disorganised. Now I’ve lost my last/only key. Can I get a replacement from Volvo without anyone being near the car, it’s in Mallorca blocking someone’s drive and I’m in a right pickle.
I’ve had confusing messages about needing the car reprogrammed!!. I would be grateful for some real advice.

you will need to get the car towed to a volvo dealer they will sort you out, It has to be connected to volvo to program a new key, get two !

I know I can buy a blade key to open the door but I assume that the steering will be locked. Is so I can’t tow.
Is the programming equipment portable? Could a mechanic come to the car?

Just check to see if you have replacement key cover on your insurance policy as it may take the expense and hassle off your shoulders.

You can't just buy a blank blade and get it cut without the original one to copy.They will have to lift the front end to tow it or put it on the back of the towing truck.
