The claim by Volvo is incomplete. Some of the lighting circuits are monitored by the on-board computer for "load" drops (i.e. when a bulb fails).
Installing LED's changes the load on the circuit and can cause a bulb out error.
I've replaced a few of the capsule type bulbs as these are not monitored.

For circuits with load drop detection you can install resister units to compensate and still use your LED's.

If you have a specific bulb you want to replace and you need assistance/guidance, can and ask for help :-)

Hi

Not correct,

No warning lights show up on the dash if you change the bulbs within the vertical leds in the main headlamp or if you add leds i.e. connect to the sidelight cable.

I started another thread somewhere here about bulbs with a view of understanding the canbus protected light circuits and those that are not!
Do a search and perhaps you'll turn-up even more useful information!

Hi Jonnie,
if you want to avoid the LED or CCFL rings, you could take a look at these:

I'm planning on getting some once the lights are installed :-)

Looks good, might just have to get some of these. They will fit the vertical led strip wont they?
Where do you think is best ofr the box - within the headlamp itself.

At some point I need to remove the black wire from the offside headlamp and ground it somewhere so may just install the diverters then. I really need a little box area where I can hide the ballasst and these diverters, any ideas?

I understand inverted convert the current from DC to AC. What advantage does this have?
