I dug out the 2008 Halogen to compare with the Bi-Xenon.
The carcass of the lamp looks identical. There is one extra pin out on the connector block which I've high-lighted in the piccy. Internally, the mechanism mentioned in the previous pics is omitted from the Halogen lamps, I'm starting to believe that this is the self-levelling feature.

Found this page quite useful.
http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread.php?128461 Seems I am correct about the auto levelling feature location.

Very nice!
I have no way of fitting these unless I purchase fogless grilles. Quite a cut-out by all accounts 25mm * 181mm. And that's without the fixing bracket. I'm sure you'll make them fit!! Good luck Jonnie!

I've attached a picture - when the current leds fail this will be my next project! In the pic old crappy leds that lasted a week after leaking, since this Ive installed the prism leds over which have now been removed leaving just slots in the fog. Well spotted, thanks JB asked him if he would accept £55 -will watch this one Spotted this on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2HssQgM98k Last edited by Jonnieb2009; Oct 3rd, 2010 at 14:38. So far so good with the current LED strips. The Philips ones arrived today £65 and they are totaly robust and waterproof and fully sealed. They are actually made of metal. I will be adapting the old fog inserts possibly at the weekend ready for fitting the leds. I'm just waiting now for one of the bulbs to go in the current ones lol.... I may just connect one up at the weekend to see what they look like - I think these will be the babies that will remain on permanently..plus if anything goes wrong then its straight in touch with Philips! Pics will follow soon.. |

Lucky you Jonnie but I'll be there soon enough with my kit.
Pics would be great, daytime shot of both the DRL's and the dipped on would be good and of course the night shots ;-) Thinking of a few alternatives but no guessing just yet!

I think Philips do a daylight 8 kit and daylight 4 kit as well, the daylight 4 which may fit yours - look on youtube.
Are you going for the 'halo' look? Also I'm keen to crack the vertical led strip look and wondering if it is possible to either use one of the smd bulbs or install a led strip in this area (super bright)- might not be worth doing this as you would need to bake the units and remove front cover to access. Have you tried a SMD bulb in the vertical strip as I dont want to buy to find they are like the crappy bulbs I bought last time - If someone has done this before then great |

Hi Jonnie,
I checked clearance for any new bulbs in the vertical side-light position. You will be fine with anything up to 44mm if you go over, don't go too far as the bulb will hit the lens or the holder will not sit home completely. Personally speaking, anything sub 40mm would be fine length wise. As for width, you are limited to about the standard width plus 1mm. I did a little bit of searching on youtube, ebay and google and realised that the most appropriate bulbs are still the SMD 5050 chip based. 20 Lumens per SMD 5050 and if you have 13 such as ebay item: 320587255909 - I think these are 41mm long. You would in theory have 260 Lumens. I'm not sure I can really believe that in the real world as all we care about is a bright light. Multiple SMD's mounted in different directions are pointless unless you have the reflective surface "tuned" to produce an appropriately focused light. Having waffled on a bit, I will go and buy these bulbs once the bumper is finished. For the price, it's worth trying them out. There are quite a few sellers of these bulbs, shop around! J
