Default Towing a '84 760 With a 1.6 Toyota

I'm towing ny 1st Volvo home this friday as she has been lying up for the last 8 years and needs some work doing to her, so i'm towing her home, i've already rented a car trasnporter trailler for friday so that sorted, but my own car i'm towing it with '96 Toyota Carina 1.6 FWD Auto.

Its about a 160 mile drive there and back.

I'm just asking for advice / experence on it.

Thanks

Get the lend of a bigger tow vehicle. Ideally a 4wd, something like an Isuzu Trooper of Land Rover Disco.

You'll kill your Toyota transmission and engine and it isn't physically heavy enough to pull a transporter and car. Not advised and probably Illegal

Trust me, i've been pulling a twin wheel rig and always use a T5 VW transporter or even a Range Rover for bigger cars. 160 miles is a big pull even with a vehicle suited to the job

Hi,

As above.

Your Volvo weighs in at 1600Kgs. 100Kg for the trailer and you are pushing the 2 tonnes.

And you want to pull that in a 1.6 that weighs in at about 1100kgs... Doesn't stand a chance..

Borrow a different (big) vehicle...

Des. . .

There is no doubt that the Volvo plus trailer would be way over a safe towing limit for your Toyota, and be a dangerous combination. As already mentioned you need a more powerful towcar that is heavy.
Best of luck

My rig is 440kg empty but can carry 2.5t,

Only problem is its a £3500 + VAT trailer which is a big investment, its paid for itself many times over though
