I agree on the no light on dash to see if lights are on comment. Currently I have to bend down to see the little green lamp being on or off on switch for lights.

Find everything else very easy to live with

Leaving the side lights on is no big deal at all .. All LED lights so hardly any current drain .
Are you sure they are LED? I only have a basic D2.......

Default agree..

I do agree about the headlamp warning light...having spent 5 years plus with an Accord with auto lights, and a warning light, I was amazed when I found the V40 didn't have one.

In the Honda, the dash lights and nav dimmed when the lights came on, so you knew anyway...but in the V40, the dash and nav darken separately from the headlights coming on! Barmy...although I did discover today that the headlights come on with the wipers, which was what I wanted..take away the economy meter and the shift change indicator, and give me a temp. gauge and a headlight warning light...as you can guess, mine does not have the TFT dash..

A simple icon like the auto wipers and the speed restriction would do the job nicely and cannot be beyond the wit of the software gurus.

Another improvement - the wheel that adjusts the headlight level would benefit from a ratchet or graduation system. It has very fine adjustment which is difficult when on the move.

Another idea - I have an auto and find the left foot-rest to be very low - could do with being a couple of inches higher as I find I have to stretch my left leg to rest my foot on it. (I am 5'11 ish) As a result I tend not to use it at all.
I test drove a Skoda Octavia at the weekend and that made me very aware of it. Great car, by the way - and sooo much quieter on road noise than the V40. I am tempted but will have to swallow about 40% depreciation already!

The manual has no clutch foot rest at all, and I find the clutch being so much higher than the brake a tad annoying. The boot is also very small.. Also, what's the story with the auto handbrake thing, which holds the brake on for a second when pulling away. What's the criteria for when it does and doesn't operate?

Don't know about this - I have a manual handbrake. I didn't know there was an auto option.

It's a manual handbrake, but when stopping at junctions and holding the car still with the footbrake, it holds for an extra half a second when you take your foot off the pedal. Took me by surprise the first few times it happened. No one else seems to have mentioned it.
