Off to France, although i’ll be largely aiming to fill up with electrons, does anyone have any experience of running E10 (10% bio ethanol unleaded) in a T6/T8?
Can’t get it in the UK yet, but believe all cars in Europe have had to be compatible since 2002 and it’s widely sold (and cheaper than standard E5) in France. I like the ethos of trying it, my line of work being emissions reduction - hence T8, but I’m also a bit cautious. I’ve heard about a typical 3% loss of efficiency, and the 320bhp T6/T8 engine is very highly tuned for its size, so is likely to reveal any flaws more than a cooking 1.2! D76

Quite Frankly I would only put Super Unleaded in it, for what you save in pence, you lose in consumption in my opinion, I certainly prefer putting as little ethanol in anything I own, (including Lawn mower) I only put super unleaded in mine, and I have been to France and many places in Europe on my motorbike (also only put Super in it) and never really had an issue getting Super unleaded, unless you are really out in the sticks, but there is never a decent petrol station that far away.

If you were really interested in emissions, pollution, energy use etc, all closely related, you would have either bought a smaller car or kept your old one. You would of course already know that it takes far more energy (pollution, fumes, heat, call it what you will) to make a car than its ever going to use.
Who are you trying to kid ? Better still, use pubic transport walk and cycle.

Fairly sure UK law allows unto 10% ethanol, Unlike in France in the UK you don't have to tell your customer exactly how much is present...chances are you have already been filling with unto 10% bioethanol.

Funnily enough, I was just thinking this. Just got back from France, and on the way down had a tank of standard 95 unleaded from the UK, followed by a refill in France of normal 95. Got around 34 mpg. On the way back had to fill up with the 85 + 10 Eth stuff twice in a row, and only got 30 mpg. I wondered if this was down to the ethanol content. Very similar driving, about 80mph on autoroutes. Starting off with a full battery both times, but over 650 miles i'm not sure that would make a big difference. Wish I had just gone to the 98 pump instead, always forget in France the cost difference is minimal between the two)
There was one section which went up some windy mountain roads, then came down the other side. Managed to recharge the battery to 1/3 full just from regen braking coming back down. Very satisfying :-) Full stats for the geeks (From VOC) (Drive from home to dover terminal, std 95, full batt) 01:32h 59.2mi 1.3 gal used 5.7Kwh used 2.5Kwh regen 43.2mpg (France side, so battery now empty, full tank of std 95) 04:36h 257.6mi 7.4 gal used 11.KWh used 10.7KWh regen 34.3 mpg (Second week in France, full batt, some mountain roads) 04:06 239mi 6.9gal 11.9Kwh used 7.7Kwh regen 34.3 mpg) (On way back, first line had full batt, 2 tanks of E10) 07:45h 499mi 15.5 gal used 21.7 KWh used 16.8 regen 31.9 mpg 02:55h 152mi 5.4 gal used 3.4KWh used 3.4KWh regen 27.8 mpg (Trip from dover to home at 70mph, then 50mph ish, for comparison - still E10) 01:22h 55.6mi 1.4gal 3.1KWh 2.7KWh 38.5 mpg There is a chance it was also slightly different road and traffic conditions, since we stopped halfway for a week, before going further south for the next week. On the way back was one big block. But looks like the E10 definitely had an impact on economy.
