Default V70R - would you consider this?

Hi to you all,

I'm new to this forum and joined because I'm seriously considering purchasing a V70R.

I've had plenty of estates over the years and my 2005 Mercedes C220 is a great car, but I've got a bit bored of it after 4 years and it's slow! I'm happy to wait for the right car to come along and my budget is about £5k.

At the moment there is this on Auto trader http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...?atmobcid=soc3

Not the most detailed of descriptions but any thoughts on whether it's worth a 90 minute drive to stand in front of it?

Cheers 😀

I would firstly be asking for some high quality interior photos to be emailed to you because that interior looks like it will be much worse in detail.
There appears to be white paint on the rear tunnel carpet and the centre armrest looks battered.
That alone would put me off looking further.

And there is trim missing from the lower left passenger footwell side of the centre console too.

I don't mind doing a bit of a refurb, kind of expecting that on a 12 year old car but equally it may indicate an uncared for life...

Don't forget running costs are a lot more than a standard T5 as parts don't seem to be interchangeable. Brembo brake kit on eBay is 500 quid, front shocks 300 quid each, tyres around 150 quid each, 17/20 mpg, new coil packs and plugs-300 quid. Mine was only 2 grand for a 53 plate geartronic with 100k miles, the ones on eBay and auto trader seem to be asking a lot of money for them. It does make you smile though when you put your foot down

that interior looks like a very angry dog has been let loose in it...

17-20mpg? Even my old E430 (v8!) merc did better than that.

I have a standard S60 d5, 2003 with 330,000 which has a vastly better condition interior than that has with a barely run in 99,000. If you do have a look I'd really want to see and prove its service history.

Cheers

Yep, last fill up clocked at 18 mpg over the tank. Computer tends to show 2/3 mpg higher than actual. I do like to put my foot down though.

As mentioned that interior from the front seats and centre console looks shot. That to me indicates one thing - neglect and uncared for.

The exterior can be polished up to a look a treat but anything that's good, will good on the outside and inside. Volvo interiors are pretty good and robust so seeing that would put me off.

I would say for £5K, hold out, there are always V70R's and S60R's dribbling onto the market and no doubt a better one will be available.

Hi Norse, are you still looking for a V70R? If so, please contact me - I am in Basingstoke so perhaps not too far from you.
