Throttle Body problem
I have a 1.8 GDI engined V40. It has done 126K miles and developed a 'misfire' which meant the car went into protection mode 1500 rpm max, until the engine was cycled off and on again.
The garage have said the stepper motor is out of calibration and a new throttle body is required. We had one fitted only 3 years ago. The engine is coked up, which I know is normal for these engines. My question is there a common issue with the throttle bodies and is there a cheaper fix? Any advice gratefully received. |

My misfires were caused by a failed coil. Hard to find I'm afraid, try you local scrapyards for either a Charisma of S40 GDI 1.8. If you find one, take the throttle body too, taking care to make sure it's the right one for your age of car. If you don't mind spending more for a coil, quite a few on ebay, normally go for about 25-30 quid.
If you're desperate, people break cars on ebay, I got a throttle body for £40 delivered by just ringing people who had entire cars. My coil and throttle body failed at about 125k too! When the throttle body went, I was 200 miles from home and had to spend 400 quid to get towed back! Thankfully, I claimed it all back |

Hi thanks for the quick reply i am going to take it to my local Volvo garage i have asked him about the codes but he says his software is the proper Volo kit as the Snap On codes dont mean anything to him.
Thanks. |
