Turbo Boost gauge
Is the boost gauge something that stays in the engine compartment or the guage that is in front of the driver in the dashboard???

Hi,
If you have an HPT then there will be a "Boost Gauge" in the instrumentation. Fairly crude and at the bottom of the RPM dial. You need your gauge in front of you - in a pod or on the "A" pillar somewhere. Des. . .

As I have an LPT version, there is no such thing.
There seems to be a conflicting opinion on here about whether or not it is possible to just turn up the pressure. Is the pressure increased with a hot engine or doesnt it matter?? Shaun Last edited by Profpriv; Apr 23rd, 2010 at 20:39. Reason: additional text |

Boost gauge
Does the LPT version of the Celebration have a boost gauge fitted that is not connected?
If not does anyone have one that I could salvage?? Other suggestions welcome. Shaun |

Turbo boost gauge
Does anyone have the Volvo pod accessory kit that fits somewhere on the dashboard?
I might as well fit the voltmeter and ammeter too. Shaun |

Hi,
There's no conflicting information! You can increase the pressure by either 1) adding an HPT waste gate actuator or 2) adding a MBC. Nothing to do with engine temperature at all. Your boost gauge will be somewhere on the dash or "A" pillar. Wherever you decide it would be best to fit it. But not in the engine compartment as it is a little difficult to see it there when driving along. It is mainly used for initially setting any boost level and to make sure when driving "spiritedly" you are not over boosting. Des. . .

Hi,
Simple answer - no. The HPT's have a "rudimentary" one fitted into the instrument panel (bottom of the rev counter). You will need to get a separate gauge. in fact it would be highly recommended to get a decent separate one whenever considering changing the level of boost so that you have an accurate idea of what boost level you are achieving... Thanks again Des.
As I have never had one of these little luxuries,Im finding it a bit difficult to get my head round it. I'm not sure that I understood the significance of the gauge, because not having one means I dont have to bother about how much(or how little) boost ther is(or isn't) Shaun |

Hi,
As you stand at this point in time you have a LPT set at about 4psi of boost. Your car has no gauge to give any indication of how much boost is being applied. And at 4psi I imagine there is not great need for knowing either.. With a HPT you normally have 8/9psi of boost. The HPT is sold as more of a performance model - faster. Volvo graciously fitted a gauge to give some indication of boost being applied. But it is a guide and no more. You basically know you have boost as the needle is on the wrong side of "economy"!!! So, you would like to have more from your car. Don't we all. The easiest route is to have an MBC (discussed elsewhere). So, when you have fitted this MBC what do you have that lets you know how much boost is being applied? What will tell you to crank up your boost as you have not yet applied much more than you have currently or (and probably more important) what will tell you to crank the boost down before you see pistons and valves popping through the bonnet!! Boost gauge. Something like this: Doesn't have to be this one as there are many other and I am sure someone can recommend a decent make which is also accurate. That will help you set your boost levels and allow you to keep an eye on them whilst driving. Imagine it fitted to you drivers "A" pillar so you can see it clearly.. Des. . .

Thanks,Des. Now I am beginning to get the picture.
Is the A pillar a good place? At night when it illuminated, wouldnt it be a distraction? I would like a triple pod on top of the dash, though to install an ammeter, and something else equally as useful, too. This would be a distraction, too.
