Auto box fluid interval

Hello,

I have a 2014 S80 6 speed with 31,000 miles on. Its got full dealer history. When would you recommend the fluid in the auto box be changed? I wouldn’t of thought it would have been done before my ownership and would like to keep it in good condition.

There isn't an interval specified as such - unless it's worked hard for towing or taxi work in which case it is 36k.

Most in the know on here would suggest at 54k or 72k (to coincide with the services).

Is 36k miles running the kids everywhere and going to the shops that much different to a taxi doing 36k miles ?

I get the towing bit as the extra weight would put a strain on the box but not so much the taxi

I suspect that stop start driving will have more effect on the clutches which will raise the gearbox fluid temperature which will deteriorate it faster. My previous non Volvos had different servicing schedules for the entire car based on whether the car was used for long distance or stop/start work, which makes sense for things like the gearbox, the drive belts, manual clutches, spark plugs etc.

Bear in mind I'm no expert (I'm quite new to all of this and the world of Volvo) but right now I'm in the process of rejuvenating the ATF with no issues. What I would say is: if you're mechanically minded and have the tools, then drop and replace 3L, the process is rather easy.
