Strange power steering behaviour when cold
I have noticed really strage behaviour from the power steering when the car is first driven and for the first 2-3 miles of driving, it makes no difference if the ambient temperature is hot or cold. The steering is notchy and has hysterisis when turned and is accompanied by a slight nocking sound/feel on the steering wheel. It can be unnerving as on a long sweeping bend the car has to be notched around as the actual car movement appears to lag the turning of the wheel. This makes it quite difficult to drive round corners smoothly. One I have driven a couple of miles the strange behaviour dissappears and it drives like any other car I have drive.
Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have any clue what it could be?
The car is a D3 with 128k and full dealer service record. It has only just passed its MOT.
