Default 185 boost problem help please

Hi guys I have a 2006 S60 D5 185 manual

Basically there is always a PSSSSSSS noise anygear and anyrevs once you apply some right foot

its just started this strange problem, under 2000 rpm there is no turbo at all but once it hits 2000 rpm it throws you back in the seat and if its in 1st or 2nd gear the front wheels spin and the traction control light comes on

Does my model have a boost control solonoid like the older D5's, or does it use an electronic actuactor?

Also the car isnt as fast should be, my mate has a audi a4 estate 2.0Tdi 140ps, he can stick to my rear bumper like glue

There are no warning lights on the dash

it seems you have a boost leak somewhere from the noise , get some one to rev the engine whlst you listen and feel for air leakes from the rubber turbo hoses . The intercooler could be the source too . especialy if there are signs of black oil around the radiator area .

Do the newer 185's use a solenoid and vacuum system to control boost?

Will plumbers gas leaker detector spray work to find the leak?

The 185 bhp version has an electric motor on the turbo to control the vanes .

The boost leak will be pretty easy to hear or feel with a hand , watch the moving pulleys ! Also take the tray off from under the engine and check that the plastic air delivery chamber has not blown off the turbo outlet . This can happen sometimes when the plastic boost pipe retaining tags break .

Assemble/machine 2 aluminium discs with the the width of the pipe oulet of the throtlebody.
Drill a hole in one of the discs and thread it then screw a plug in wich can be connected with a rubber hose from a 5quid 12v airpump or a bicycle handpump
Then disconnect the rubber hose from the throttlebody and the rubber hose where the airmass meter is located
Put the disc with the plug in the hose of the turboinlet and the other blindplate in the rubber hose of the throttlebody put the original clamps back on and tighten them airtight
Put the pump on and build pressure and listen carefully ,if there is a pressuremeter on the pump see if pressure drops when not pumping
Advantage of this method is that the engine is not running and you can hear/feel/see more precise where/if its leaking

not common on the same car it may leak around 120000 miles or go on forever . Not common in general terms but it can happen .

The price difference is probably undescribeble ;-)

btw the volvo tool is one disc ?and leaves also leaking due to valveoverlap in the engine

Been messing about today, found a small leak

There is a 90 degree pipe just under the sump which comes off the turbo, one of the jupilee clips has a small screw in it (not sure why?) but it was leaking badly out of there could'nt get the screw to seal so tryed a slightly bigger one and works, no leaks

also made a device to pressure test the intercooler, tested it to 20 psi, had no leaks

now its all back together there is a bit more of a kick through the gears, but there is still a Pssssss noise as the turbo builds up pressure in high gears, is this normal on D5's??
