Default Bio Diesel? Say what now?

As you may be aware i recently bought an 05 plate 2.0d S40, I was reading through my handbook when I saw a part that said i could add a %5 RME Rape Methyl Ester (Bio Diesel) mix too my fuel.

What does this mean?

Where would you buy this stuff?

Is it cheaper than diesel and is it really worth it? i mean with a 50 litre tank your only talking 2.5 litres of this stuff.

I suppose i'm asking whats the point??

The stuff at the pumps currently has up to 7% biodiesel added (7% is the max to retain BS approval).

Biodiesel is manufactured diesel made from rapeseed oil etc. Bio has a nasty habit of killing DPF and and can cause oil dilution if used in too greater quantities.

I use shell who traditionally use less biodiesel, and virtually nil in V-Power diesel which is synthesised from methane gas.

From my understanding Bio Diesel is not good for modern complicated diesel engines, unlike the bone shakers from the 80's & 90's which will run on chip fat all day long if you wish.
