I do have the old carb that was in the car. From what I can make out, the guy who owned it before me accidentally put Diesel in the car, a mechanic removed the diesel, cleared it out as much as possible and the carb was replaced at this stage too. The guy seemed to think the old carb would be good if it was stripped down and cleaned.

Would it work leaving it with someone who could rebuild a carb from the two that I have (i.e. knackered one on the car and the one that was in it before) or maybe having a bash at it myself?

I'll make sure to clean the EGR valve while the carb is off, whether it's for a rebuild of the two or to put on the weber replacement

For the cost of having one "good" carb made of two, it's not worth it. There's no guarantee it will work and remain working and will always be a concern whenever there's a problem with running.

Fair play Dave, Weber with EGR and pulse air it is then, just a thought to ask while I have the carb off, is there anything else you think I should service while I have carb out of the engine bay?

Thanks again for everything, I can't express enough how much help you've been with this car

Clean or replace the oil separator and clean the PCV system in general. Hope you get it sorted and up and running again soon.
