Have you fitted the replacement ABS unit yet?
Rubber brake hoses that are disintegrating inside can cause braking issues- if your hoses don't look very new this may be a cheap option to try. |

What "replacement ABS unit"??
I didn't see that mentioned in this thread yet - although I agree it seems like a good idea to check the ABS operation. Hoses would either be OK or not - these symptoms seem to change side to side - so I'm thinking that it's what is telling the ABS to do its thing is what's wrong. Cheers Dave |

Hi
Would it be worth getting the brakes checked on a MOT brake tester machine. Might help point the right direction. If you explain the symptoms they might be able to get the problem to re occur??

Thanks all,
The brakes all look old, except the bits I have already replaced. I havent fitted the ABS unit yet as I was waiting for a scanning tool I ordered. I got the Icarsoft Max unit and it is awesome. Cleared the ABS light in a few seconds. (my fault, didnt disconnect the battery when fitting the towbar electrics! doh). Still no codes though. But it can do ABS brake bleeding. So after driving it around, I think it is the offside front brake calliper that is the main culprit. I am going to start by changing it out (as I have already tried lubricating and freeing it up by taking it apart, cleaning and reassembling) and then I will try the ABS brake bleeding. If they dont work, I will try fitting the ABS unit. However that will need some programming or swapping over of the chip that it needs to recognise the car. Why is nothing ever easy? |
