Default Engine fan and module 2003 D5

I have a problem with the controller box in the fan itself, is it possible to get just the electronic box thats mounted in the fan, can the box be taken out of the fan itself to put in a used good one?
Anybody done this?

Not sure if this helps, but it seems the complete fan, and just this part itself is listed for sale on uk ebay at the moment. As they are both listed, I assume it can be removed, but never tried if.

Both are for '03' xc90 and the whole fan assembly is £40.

See

And

Hope this helps

Thanks John, The fan did come up with an error, cleared, doesnt now come up with an error, I found that something was blocking the fan blade turning, so now seems to work?

When should the fan be working, if I turn on the air con it does come on, but even driving at the moment in this heat it doesnt seem to come on.

If I do activations with Vida, I can get all the speeds, but not sure what actually controls the fan coming on, is it just the engine temp above a certain figure that triggers it?

I believe it is engine thermostat that controls the fan.

Mine comes on these hot days in the UK when in slow traffic and will run about 20 secs when engine off on very hot days. On longer runs the wind cools the radiator and the fan stays off.

Mine is also '03' and operates in the same way as yours from what you now describe. I doubt if the air con switch on should make much difference although the engine will be working harder at idle so more likely the fan may come on.

I assume the temperature gauge stays reasonably contact?

I guess if vida operates the fan ok then not to worry but others may comment.

Hope this helps.

It seems to be working fine to be honest. don't expect it to start blasting away every time you come to a stop like a small car does it will turn at the right speed to keep the engine at 90C . with such a huge radiator and very powerful fan you wont find you hear it going full speed unless you are in the tropics.
