They coped but were not very good. I changed them for Nokian WR G2 quite a while ago and they are a lot more sure footed, and have lasted over 20K miles so far. Running them at 38psi

New Tyres
Well, long story but 4 weeks into owning my new shiny panzer I found myself staring at 4 new shoes - managed to persuade the garage I bought it from to pay for three and the alignment which was nice!
But, after deliberation the technician endorsed my selection of the GT RADIAL 235/60R18 GT CHAMPIRO HPY 107V, At £113 each (Pro Tyres). First impressions are very good, grip in the rain enormously improved as is road noise. A lot time before I can assess wear. |

Just to add...The Conties are well documented on the forum for poor wear rate and to get 20,000 miles out of them is extremely good. Typical milage from them is more like 13,000. Nokians and Vredstiens give in the region of 75,000 miles.

Just over 3 months ago I fitted a full set of General Grabber AT2's to my XC90(http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=187988). Its done a little under 4000 miles since the tyres were fitted reducing the original 13mm tread depth to 9mm on the front and 10mm on the rear.
Majority of my driving, I'd guess about 70%, is heavy urban(school runs, taking the missus to work etc.). The remaining 30% is split between motorway and off road. Around 10% motorway and 20% off road, resulting in a loss of 4mm on the front and 3mm on the rear. I think thats a lot to loose but its a price I don't mind paying, the extra grip they give me this time of year(especially off road) is great. As a rough guide a millimetre (1mm) of tyre tread lasts from approximately 1,000 to 4,000 miles, dependent upon driving style, road and weather conditions and tyre rubber compound. http://www.airtekuk.com/tyres Last edited by Shadeyman; Jan 26th, 2014 at 10:20. |

Just thought I'd share this in case it helps anyone else..
I have bought 4 Vredestein Wintrac 4 extremes (235/65/r16) for £106 each from tyre leader. Ordered 4pm Wed and they were delivered (free) Fri morning having come from Germany. These will replace the same tyres that have been on the car full time for around 2.5 years and have so far covered 42k miles (I only got 26k from the original continentals). I actually still have 3mm tread left so could arguably get some more miles but will swap them in the coming weeks as I'm off to the Alps in March. I get good mileage (36mpg) and no noise issues with the vredesteins and do not appear to have suffered excessive wear despite running them all year round (though arguably if I had swapped them out maybe I'd have 60k from a set) |

16" wheels on an xc90? Are you sure, as I thought they were 17" minimum, going up to 18 and 19? |

Some USA models had 16" wheels but they were not listed as an option for UK XC90's in any brochures I've seen.
However the handbook recommends 225/70/R16 for winter use on 5 seater models. 235/65/r16 would give the wrong diameter I think.
