just bought a v70r 2003 i am looking to work out what i can tow legally with it bearing in mind i passed after 97 when they introduced a load of rubbish

you can not go over 3500 kg combined weight ie car plus trailer.over that you will have to take a trailer test.

that depends on what your car weighs, so if you load the car lets say as per veh gross weight of 2200 kg that only leaves you1300 kg , have a look at the weights on your plate and post them up .

these are the weights on my car.
2160KG ,3960KG , 1- 1080KG and 2-1130KG

as long as the combined weight does not go over 3500 kg you will be okay without the test .

2160 is the number we are looking at yeah? mine is 2220 4020 1090 1170

2220 is what the car can weigh fully loaded, thats the car weight and what you put in it.
4020 is the total combined weight of car plus trailer.
so you can pull a trailer with a maximum load of 1800 kg, but you will have to check your hand book to see what it says what the maximum towing capacity is for the car.so if you pass your test you have not a problem .also the car will have a noseweight that you have to check
