V60 2017 Failed to start multiple warnings
Hi,
I’ve got a D3 V60 and the other my other half reported the steering felt stiff, I restarted the car and there was no issues. That was until I went to start it again, I got the following messages flash up when i turned the ignition on and pressed to start the car: Brake system failure Stop safely Steering malfunction Stop safely Then when shutting it down I got: Immobiliser Try to start again. I called Volvo assist (recently serviced), an independent ran diagnostics but it kept crashing his machine. Got it recovered to Volvo (handbrake locked on as electric and would not release). Volvo have had it 3 days now and only just managed to get it to release the parking brake. They have said they are getting ‘CAN’ connection issues and can’t seem to get it to fully communicate. To me this sounds like a software issue, but anyone else had similar issues? It had a new clutch (less than 40k miles on the clock) in Sep, and they updated software on the service. Advice welcome as Volvo seem lost too. Tim Last edited by TimBobJo; Dec 23rd, 2022 at 14:26. Reason: Better title |

Leaves on the track mate.
Seriously though if it's brake and steering related and not a dying battery issue I'd be looking at the ABS sensors and rings myself. Also do you live in a leafy area? I ask because it's also possible you've had leaves drop on the car and block the drainage up which can lead to water spilling over into the car and eating the electrics. Also if you're rural rodents like car electrics for lunch so checking looms for bite damage is another place to look. Outside of that if Volvo can't see what's wrong it's going to be a pin the donkey thing on a forum, hope you get a quick fix. Last edited by SnineT; Dec 23rd, 2022 at 17:01. |

Not an hijack reply. I am watching this thread with much interest. I have similar. I am told via an indy my CEM is not communicating with the canbus system! No water ingress detected as yet. Booked in at a respected auto electrician at the end of March near to me, they are very busy!
They will try to reprogramme the CEM or detect another connection fault. If that fails then a new CEM from Volvo, cloning, re programming by paying Volvo for the software use etc etc😳. I Charge battery all the time now when stationary at home. The cold snap did trigger it but that could be a co incidence?? Big money I guess for me! I certainly wish you well. Please update us all and I will do the same if I have any updates. At the moment my warnings on clocks are light Xmas lights and infotainment does what it wants. Changes daily! But drives ok apart from the occasional limp mode till I turn it off and on! Great fun, NOT.Regards |

I am resisting calling Volvo with guesses, for now. I post on here when I hear more. |

Check all your fuses, I had a similar thing on my Omega many moons ago and it was the main engine fuse so check all the bigger ones under the bonnet as well, iirc it also knocked the speedo and rev counter out. hth. |

They do act up very funny when the battery is stressed out and as most things are reliant on electric rather than hydraulic or belt drives it's possible this is all that is wrong with it, if the battery is original still and a charge up works have both tested and hope it's only the starter one as they're about £80 at ECP. As the car is now 5 years old it's pure luck if a battery is still alive after that time, I generally work on 4 years and if they last that long they've done well, some can go on forever but it's a luck of the draw thing tbh. |
