Default Vibration/shuddering

Hi All

The latest mystery problem.....2006 D5 shudders under acceleration, but only intermittently. Seems to be more of an issue when the engine is warm.

Goes away when at a constant speed.

Then, when I decelerate (i.e. take my foot off the throttle), the vibration gets worse, especially at 30mph and under.

I also had a couple of clunks but they seemed to have stopped.

My indy has looked but no issues found. Clearly there's something!

Also, the car is increasingly whiny at motorway speeds.

Could it be a wheel bearing? Or engine mounts?

All help much appreciated!

I assume you have checked wheel balance and wheel nuts tight? It could be a balance weight gone AWOL.

The wining noise could be other unrelated issues.

If the shuddering was at just over 50mph on accelleration then suggest torque converter but not at the speeds you indicate.

I would first suggest swapping front wheels for rear then take it from there.

Hope this helps.

Hi Daniel
That was the original suspicion but no issue there.
