Default DAB Radio

Has anyone experienced the digital signal being lost intermittantly? This has happened to me on several occasions and I have always assumed that it is not a fault related to the car. The other stations operate normally and the pod DAB LCD goes grayscale.

I use FM almost exclusively, because of the poor DAB coverage in Devon.

As you say being digital it just suddenly cuts out and that is much worse than a FM signal that just becomes noisy.

Works very well here in Surrey.

It's happened to me on occasion.

I've always suspected that it's because coverage isn't as good (yet) than FM rather than a fault with the car.

DAB signal coverage is Pants in many places, and has a nasty habit of either being 'there' or completely 'not there' i.e. it doesnt get worse and fade, go crackly, it just vanishes. DAB is OK where we like in Norfolk, but in Northumberland, where my Mum-in-law lives, she can only get her DAB radio to work at exactly the right angle, in exactly the right place, in her sitting room.

Its a total pain, hence she gas given up on the expensive DAB radio she was given , and gone back to FM!

We're being sold a pup with DAB radio, there will be hell on if they DO shut down the FM signal!

Dab is just like any digital signal, it's either on or off! It's a shame we can't have Sirius radio.....

when ( IF ! ) they shut down FM they will increase the strength of the DAB signal ,
The same happened with the TV, Freeview was running in parallel with the UHF and was a bit patchy but when UHF was turned off a stronger Digital signal appeared .

Thanks for the replies, I'm feeling more re-assured that the radio itself is most likely not at fault. I do like the crystal clear audio that DAB provides (at least compared to AM) and hope that come the time when the FM signal is switched off the DAB is appropriately strengthened.

BTW I never seem to have any issues with the signal using the Roberts DAB radio in the house but I suppose it has an easier life being stationary all the time!

is the roberts mains only or portable? if portable you could try it in the car. that way you could see quite easily if it's the reception or the car, or even a bit of both.

Unfortunately the Roberts does not have the facility to operate on 12v power. Travelling mainly in Central Scotland I would have thought that the DAB signal would be strong but it looks as though that is not the case!
