Can anyone give some history on a 122S
Hi all,
Firstly a very Happy pre 2016 New Year to you all and hearty thanks to everyone who continue to post useful info on here for us all to refer to and benefit from especially when the wifes engrossed in Downton or some other classic drama. My browsing has found a 122s (JPX 63D) for sale on Ebay and I've learnt the gent has had it 6 months and I believe it's been resprayed recently with some other work too. Being a complete cynic and living some 170 miles away does anyone have info on this one which may save a trip? It's been quite well thumbed with 7 owners and 177,000 on the clock, obviously still low mileage for the old girl but one of you gents may have come across it at some time so help would be appreciated, many thanks Andy |

The car was at the VOC Amazon meeting at Sywell last September. Mileage at the 1st July MOT (Pass) was 75,434 so it's done a few miles since then. Previous MOT history can be found if you put the reg number in here.
https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ Looks tidy, wide wheels a bonus. The only individual pic I took of it at Sywell was of the alternator conversion but there might be someone else here who took others. Photos also in this thread. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...=sywell&page=2 |

I note the colour is slightly lighter on the ad in comparison to the Sywell pictures which probably confirms it's been resprayed recently BUT does it hide anything that's the question. The gent says he's had Amazons all his life and has just bought another but the question remains why sell a cracking car after only owning for 6 months. I have never sold a good looking reliable classic unless it's to better my personal taste but hey ho that's just me.............anyway the jury is still out and I think this one may climb quite high if local guys inspect it and find it a genuine example. £1800 + £2500 spent on it according to the eBay description so the seller is still currently out of pocket, apparently....... One of the pictures show another Amazon in the background which leads some credence to the "passionate enthusiast" comment in the description. Possibly/probably a forum member so please pipe up with some sales talk.
Some people are happier for various reasons to spend their time fettling up a car to a reasonable standard than driving them. Once its done they then get the itch to do another. I've no problem with that as long as they don't bodge it and then try and pass it off as something it clearly isn't. Unfortunately eBay is an easy outlet for these sub standard cars. |

Derek I can relate to the fettling etc it's part of the attraction of restoring anything Classic if one is good with a welder, spanners and a positive attitude.
It's rewarding to stand back and admire the results of ones efforts......... I'm not in a position to judge this car and because I live so far away I will bow out of any dealings and concentrate on my own project. Impatience is one negative I suffer from now and again, when one has a long term 131 project in the workshop sometimes the thought of just driving a complete car seduces the mind into fantasy thoughts only to find in reality that buying it has put all plans on a financial slippery slope. If the seller is a VOC & forum member then I wish him well as these cars are destined to rise in price, in fact I have a reasonable TR4 with Surrey top and have even thought of selling it and investing in a couple of reasonable Amazons as quite honestly they are a joy to drive and maintain and it's much better than money in the bank. |

Car update with info
Hi ya folks
Ok first off I know this car very very well I had been looking after it for a year when the owner at the time was wanting to bring it back to FULL health paint wise but fell in love with another car we had in the workshop so he used this car as a deposit for it , then we sold it to peter ragg the new register keeper who has loved using the car but wants to keep re generating intrest plus fixing some amazons along the way like myself back to full health he's a good chap anyone that meets him will say the same I met him first at the bkv last year and since then have found him to be a very geniune guy who is related to Jackie ragg within the owners club Ok that's the back ground of ownership and reason for sale now the hot stuff YOU will be hard pushed to find a more geniune solid car with full poly bushes all round lots has been spent on the car peter is selling the car to put money back I to fixing more amazons and he has done a wonderful job on the car todate as commented a brand new set of wide 5.5j with new tyres has been fitted a very well done paint job not concourse don't get me wrong but that was what was letting the car down which has been recterfied ( it's the lighter grey not dark slate grey ) within a gd budget sporting a two tone look it's fantastic with lots of charm. The Dash is in very gd condition no splits or cracks anywhere , seats all in very gd condion deep red speckled type. Mechanically it's flawless was tuned professionally up north by a specialist called Stewart it did have a sticker on rocker cover when I was looking after it with name , with newly tuned carbs , alternator new conversion from Simon the expensive upgrade fitted where the dyno should be ,Simonz sports exhaust does not miss a beat this car is Fully Ready for action so bid with that in mind and it's worth a look this is the type of car which should be up for sale Any questions I can answer most but drop peter a call his contact number should be on listing or the driver as 120 register keeper. Value Wise from me knowing the car I would pay between £6 -7 ,000 all day long as it's a complete package the only one thing that let's the car down is NO overdrive ( and slightly scratched windscreen due to bad wipe blade wearing it , new screen I would fit ) but that can be fixed with very little off road time - a days labour you can have it all switched round ( overdrive gearbox , OD Speedo cable , short prop clutch can be re fitted but makes sense to drop a new one in check All is working and oil level fine) and if it helps I can offer my service when my diary allows me to . Kind regards and I wish peter all the best with a sale of a great car mark my words you will see this car out and about that's for sure on circuit. Robert.w

Robert,
thankyou very much for the detail and support for Peter(who I did speak to before starting this post........but he was slightly merry!!) who clearly is a genuine enthusiast and like many on here have a passion for the marque. I will have to do some sums and spend some time in a darkened room!......but clearly I will look forward to seeing this car in 2016 one way or another. Meanwhile, many thanks to you all for responding with such detail, support, speed and enthusiasm, it does prove the camaraderie on here is priceless. Happy New Year to every one. Andy |
