240 carb swap
I am thinking of scrapping the pulsair system and Solex carb on my 240 and changing it for the carb and manifold fitted to a 740, which looks to me like a Weber.
Anyone any comments? Anybody doe this? It appears to be straightforward, is it? Thanks, John Davies

RE: 240 carb swap
Carb fitted to 700 series is more than likely a Pierburg (German) and a little thirsty. I would personally advise a twin SU set-up using 2 inch carbs. This is similar to the twin-carb Amazon set-up All the best, Peter |

RE: 240 carb swap
Assuming the engine is a B230K and the carb is a Solex Cisac, "I am told" that the Weber 36/36 DCD will fit with only small modifications to the existing manifold. Sorry I can't be more specific; I had my Cisac successfully rebuilt by a professional, but next time it starts giving me headaches I will go the Weber route.
Good luck, Erling. http://radmannen.stavanger.kommune.n...myvolvo240.htm

RE: 240 carb swap
Yes, I read the article and am now looking for a Ford Sierrra in a scrapyard - failing this I might find a 740 manifoild and have a weber carb fitted by a specialist.
Thanks to those who responded. John Davies

RE: 240 carb swap
Better off looking for the Capri with Weber carb. Incidentally my (long time ago) Corsair V4 2 Litre had a Weber carb as standard which was downdraught. All the best, Peter |

RE: 240 carb swap
John,
When looking for Weber carbs on Fords make sure the carb is a genuine Weber. Some of the models, (as I remember) had Ford specific carbs which have non- changeable jets/chokes etc. It may be worth checking with a Weber specialist on this, as you may get a carb which you can`t re-jet to suit your engine if this is needed. RE: 240 carb swap
Hi John i have done a lot of these .I fit a DVG carb and manifold from a 240 you will also need most of piping from the carb venting system ,air filter hoses and a choke cable. If you go to your Volvo deales you can order blanking plugs for the cylinder head after removing the EGR pipes from the head .You will also have to blank the manifold pipe thats goes to the EGR valve underneath the inlet manifold.Your car will start, run, have better MPG and run just great.Good luck,TAMC.

RE: 240 carb swap
i would personally swap it for an early type stromberg , they can be tuned very well and give good power . Its not worth having a downdraft carb that has to turn 90 degrees (equals a restriction since some friction does occur) , and even modding the existing manifold for twin SU or strombergs , all parts are still available from burlen fuel systems (even the turbo jet and needle).
failing that is twin 40-45s on a bespoke manifold , which can be had at a decent price from sweden ( a talbot sunbeam has the correct spacing). webers are good and make power by dumping fuel into the inlet tract . im not saying you cant make a marginal increase by fitting a downdraft weber , look at alternatives . DCNFs can be very good , as fitted on alfa suds.
