Guages in the 240's
i just recently bought the 3 guages that come in the GLT models, I was wondering what's required to fit these, i have a GLE and i don't know where everything needs to be connected to, the 3 guages are the volt meter (that one's ok.. i can do that one) the 2nd is the temperature (air temp) and there is 3 plug for this one.. power, ground and another one? :| and the economy guage, this has a vacuum hose connection on it, i was wondering if anyone knows where to plug this onto.. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance to all. Stew |

RE: Guages in the 240's
There are a few resources for this on the net, perhaps you will find something here:
http://www.swedishbricks.net/faq/gauges.html http://www.brickboard.com/ARCHIVES/1...20016764.shtml [When I just installed my small tach, I got great advice by emailing James Stoney, the main contributer in the Brickboard postings.] For the ambient temp gauge you will need the sender, usually located behind the front bumper. One of the wires will be for lights, to be spliced into one of the brown wires behind the instrument cluster. If you don't receive a specific reply to your vacuum hose question here, your local dealer will know. Erling. http://radmannen.stavanger.kommune.n...myvolvo240.htm

RE: Guages in the 240's
Thanks a tonne for all that, just a couple of last questions. Will i need to buy a specific air temp connector or do all the 240's come with them, i have a 85 GLE model. The Volts guage i'm gussing you can just plug into any power source (since it'll all be at 12 volts-13.8 when the cars on). The other one's arn't ecaxtly explained, i'm not a total fool :P heheh but i would like some general tips about if it's a vacuum hose that just goes onto something in the engine bay and if the sender/wires for the air guage are already built in.
I just checked, the economy guage could be another fuel level guage :S, if anyone knows what this might be exactly that would be great, it works on a vacuum/pressure function (as in it changes/moves when i blow/suck on the reciever part..? (sounds bad but i needed to see what it was for :|) Thanks again for all the help. |

The air temp one needs a sneder but you need to get that, your car will not have one built in. The economy one needs just a vacuum hose from the inlet manifold.

George took care of it, I just wanted to add that I wouldn't plug into ANY power source if I were you. Me, I'd go for a switched circuit, like i.e. the #5 fuse. Even if the meter draws only a little power, I'd hate to have a thief sucking the battery when the engine is shut off.

RE: Guages in the 240's
Thanks everyone for the help, i rang the wrecker guy and i'm getting the sender and the vacuum hose tomorrow, so it should be all working. *yay*
I don't have the lights in the back of the guages though...? would anyone recommend anything special for it (special type of globe) or could i just use a few LEDs.. cos they are pretty bright and with a resistor in it would work pretty well.. just some other thoughts. You can't tell how happy i am that i have finally got these goin in, i've been waiting for about a year to get these (mainly due to lazyness and no money) but yeah, thanks everyone again for the help with everything. If anyone wants photo's after i'm finished i'd be happy to post them for you. |
