S80 Radio's.................
About to get an S80 which only has a radio cassette. I would like a cd player and have seen a HU603 on ebay which has apparently come out of an S60 - would this fit ?
I have also located a HU803 (£125 + VAT) which has no cassette, but 4 disc changer in it - this is out of a new style V70 - would this fit ? Could anyone give me a quick list of unit's that would fit & also as this car is 'software' powered, would my local dealer have to download a patch for any new audio systems ? Also, do you still need codes for these units ? Cheers, John. |

RE: S80 Radio's.................
I can't a precise answer ... but think that any of the HU series should work, but will require some sort of software download (or maybe VADIS setup) by a dealer to make work. Though, I also recall reading that later HU systems won't work in early S80's. Suggest you talk it over with a friendly dealer.

RE: S80 Radio's.................
I wan't sure if the radio space/design is the same on the V70 as on the S80 ?
Also, can you tell me Paul how to remove the radio from an S80 ? Cheers, John.

RE: S80 Radio's.................
A while ago I came across the instructions for radio removal, but can't find now!
Release the gear stick surround (up and back a bit); remove the two screws holding the switch panel, then pull the panel forward. Now the tricky bit. At the same time, pull the lower part of the heater control panel forward and down. This will require some force, there are 2 or 3 spring catches that hold it at the top (on a metal rail below the radio and cubby hole panels (you'll see when it's out). Then , you'll see a couple of bolts holding the radio unit in, undo and pull radio forward. Tips - disconnect battery before undoing any cables (you can trigger an SRS alert which then requires a dealer VADIS visit to reset), and when replacing radio ensure cables are not caught behind it. Good luck! Paul VOC S80 Register Keeper |

RE: S80 Radio's.................
Thanks for that Paul - will be having a go soon now doubt !! Don't know why they have to make things more difficult these days. It was a 10 sec job in the S70 ! So much for progression !!
Cheers, John. P.S. Have also tried to move the drivers side wiper arm back slightly as is catching the a pillar when sweeping, but cannot get it off the spline & the whole mech. seems a bit flimsy - any ideas on that one ?

Wiper arm - undo the nut, but don't remove completely, then carefully (!!) using something 'soft but firm' (piece of wood possibily) between the wiper and the plastic panel, sharply wack the nut with a hammer. This will 'release' the arm off a taper. Access is limited as the bonnet gets in the way.
Paul PS: In the next Driver you will read about how I've changed my wiper arms/blades for the new 2004 model style. |
