General: Infotainment System

Hi All

According to my garage my Infotainment System is drawing 3.8ah when engine is not running, which obviously drains the battery if car is left standing for any period.

I've removed the fuse to prevent battery drain, but would like to know if anyone else has had the issue and what the fix is.

Ideally I'd like to keep the original system, but if it's got to be a replacement what do you guy's recommend.......bluetooth connectivity is a must.

Questions:
Does the radio/CD work at all?
If not, did they check which component was drawing too much power? (radio / display / amplifier / subwoofer / navigation computer / navigation display / telephone)

Thanks for the response and yes everything works fine but no the technician on said it was the cause of the battery drain and suggested fuse removal or visiting our local Car Audio specialist, he has said he'd have to send the full unit and amp away to get tested as a minimu cost of £200....... I thought there should be other options hence my thread.

Forget the local car radio specialist, they won't be able to do anything with a fiber optic system.

Disconnect individual components until you find the one using too much power

Electrical knowledge and methodical approach is essential
A wiring diagram helps enormously.

That brings me to the point, do you have any problems with battery drain? Or did they "found out" there is a drain and told you to repair it?

The computer systems in your car do a lot of things, even after turning the engine off, even after leaving the car (and locking it) a lot of systems stay on. That doesn't mean, that it's a battery drain.

There was a fantastic guide (was it from you t swedespeed, SwissXC90?) how to diagnose battery drainage in P2 Volvos. That involved something like leaving the car and let it rest for xx minutes and a few other things, that I don't remember.

The point is, if you haven't had problems with battery drainage, look for a new specialist, but a radio specialist isn't really needed in P2 Volvos. Systems in these cars are very special and need a lot of knowledge, that you mostly find here in a forum or with a good indy.
If you had problems, do the same: ask here or look for a specialist, that knows these cars.

To answer your second question: if necessary, there are alternatives for aftermarket solutions, but these are special and not easy to find. Something easy like "put in a double DIN radio" isn't working with these cars, at least not, if you want it integrated.

I'm not the battery drain solver expert on this forum, that's more like Chesired5

But to reiterate:
The car stays awake after you close and lock it for about 10 minutes, and then systems start shutting down

The easiest way to determine the vehicle has shut down is to leave the boot open with the cargo area lamp on, and close and lock the car, then wait.
Eventually the cargo area lamp goes off when the car goes into sleep mode.
Only then can you measure battery drain.

But it would be odd for the audio system to appear to work normally, but not shut down. Maybe, depending on the age of the vehicle, a relay is not turning off.

To help more you need to tells us what year XC90, and what engine and what audio system is fitted.

Thanks all, it's 2008 D5 2.4 SE Sport not sure how I tell which infotainment system it is.

As far me working on it, I'm happy to renovate houses but when it comes to cars at this level electrically or mechanically I prefer to leave it to those that know how. I live in Cumbria and apparently there are no Volvo specialist in the area...... ? Happy to travel (once we are allowed) to get it sorted.

Sorry since the Infotainment System Fuse has been removed I've had no battery issues with the vehichle. Which is what they said would stop the battery drain and they advised getting the system checked. When the fuse is plugged in the everything works as it should.
