V60 New Battery Start/Stop
Looking for a it of advice, Until recently my 2011 V60 Drive was on its original battery, but I was constantly getting ‘Low Battery’ warning and charging the battery was not helping. So I thought it was time to buy a new battery.
I bought a compatible Lucas AGM battery and fitted it myself a few weeks back. However I’m still noticing that the Start/Stop is not activated, the screen display says it’s unavailable. Even after a long motorway journey it’s not charged up. I’m also getting messages saying ‘low battery’ still. I contacted my local independent Volvo specialist who said the issue was I’ve not used a genuine Volvo battery. I don’t doubt their advice, but surely a battery is a battery, I was told the one I bought was compatible etc. I’m stunned you have to buy a Volvo battery to get the start/stop to work etc. Anyone have any experience of a similar issue? |

Which battery did you replace?
The main one?? The little one hidden behind the skuttle panel runs all the electrics when the car does it start/stop engine turn off. If that battery is flat then the car wont turn off when stationary. I suspects it actually that battery that's flat. And if it ain't charging probably because it's goosed, it'll will never work. The the display under EDrive say "battery charging"? Oh, just thought.... When you replace the battery, you need to reset the battery meter in VIDA to basically teach it to learn the correct levels. Have you done that? |

Sorry should have said it was the main battery I replaced. I had read on here about the smaller battery but I got the impression from the post I read that the small battery only gets used very little ie when the start stop is activated. So if your getting low battery warnings is most likely the main battery. I’m pretty sure I’m getting the Edrive battery charging message you mention now though.
Also I’ve not done what you mentioned with Vida, I’m not technical or have the skills, I’m not fully sure what Vida does? I did ask the Volvo specialist if I could replace the battery myself or if it needed any specialist coding etc. I was told it could just be done as a straight swap, hence doing it myself. Wish I’d not bothered now!! |

The new battery may have been stored a while and needs to be fully charged before SS is activated. I use an Etek charger to top my cars up each month and SS Works perfectly for a week on each, then drops off again. My wife’s car had a new battery recently and it did need a good charge from new.

You probably need o do a BMS reset - the Battery Monitoring System doesn't handle just having a new battery put in very well. I believe !!
EDIT - just noticed the end of one of the posts above mentioned his as well - +1 !! |

There are supposedly hacks available to reset the BMS without VIDA, using various button pressings instead. Might be worth a try.

I had issues with stop/start when I first got my car.... As in it was never available.
I reset the BMS a few times and now it works a treat. No new battery required. I would recommend getting it reset. I think it needs reset then the car gets locked and left for several hours. Ideally need a local fellow member with VIDA to come and sort it for you. As discussed above there seems to be a way around VIDA by disconnecting the BMS briefly and then locking the car overnight. |

If you replace the main AGM you must reset the BMS computer.
One of the most important parts of the reset is the lifetime clock. I recently replaced my 2014 D6 PHEV AGM battery. The good news is you DON'T need VIDA. Switch On Ignition do not start car. Switch on dipped beam Press 6 times the rear fog light switch Press 3 times the hazard button The little battery light in the speedo sould now flash 3 times quickly. If it does not. Wait 20 seconds before trying again. |

Thanks all for the advice, certainly seems like the BMS is the culprit, I have tried the button technique and left it overnight. I did not notice the battery icon flash despite trying a few times, so will try again if there’s no improvement.
I’m currently on furlough so car not being used much on day to day basis. A few good runs could also help charge battery a bit. |
