Unhappy V60 - tow bar electrics question

Hi - I've just bought a V60 2014 version and it's got a tow bar and electrics already fitted. There's an issue with it though, and I know it's the car, not the caravan, as it works with other vehicles.

QUESTION: with this Volvo model am I required to get a vehicle-specific electrics system fitted, or can I go with universal? I need to let my local garage know so they can get the parts in. And I go away next week and it's VERY short notice!

Thanks, kate

Get the Volvo system it will be much better than a generic one and will make the best use of integral vehicle systems.

You will need a software download from a Volvo dealer to get full functionality.

Agree with above, just had a towbar for caravan fitted to my 2016 V60 using a vehicle specific loom, however it did not need the dealer to update any software.

Yes it will work out of the box in that all of the lights will work but the software needs to be done to enable the DSTC to work with the caravan to minimize and reduce the risk of snaking, switch off the rear parking sensors and the rear fog light and check the caravan lights on startup.
