Turbocharger Oil Supply
Hi everyone,
Having read a lot of stuff on line about the likely failure mode of the turbo on the PSA 1.6 litre diesel, I am wondering if removing the gauze filter from the oil supply pipe, or at least changing it at every oil change would be a good idea. It seems to be generally accepted that the turbo fails because carbon particles in the oil (usually originating from a failed injector oil seal) accumulate in the gauze filter, and finally block it altogether. The turbo then fails pretty much straight away. Any thoughts? Thanks for reading this. Hamster31 |

I know this issue was common in the Peugeot and Citroen cars but didn’t think it was such an issue in the Volvos. Mainly down to better servicing and I think from memory the oil grade is different. However it’s still not a great engine in my opinion tho there are thousands out there.
Personally if it’s got good service history with regular oil changes I wouldn’t worry. If the history is sketchy and your worried change the oil clean all the pipe work out so you know it’s right and then just change your oil regular using the correct Volvo grade. Can’t remember if these were on 0w30 or not?
