Key question
Managed to sort central locking not working.. using the key in the lock it works fine, as does the button on drivers switch pack, however i csn not get it to work remotely despite new battery. I can unlock manually and drive car. Is it worth buying a circuit board part of the key? Ive tried the key in ignition five times reset but no luck 😔.. everything else works on thr car... had key apart and ckeaned with contact cleaner ... at a loss what to do next?

Could be RF interference. I have a wireless alarm for my water softener salt contents. When it is transmitting (low salt) the car remote does not work!

Does your other key work? If so, then I think you can rightly surmise that this key is defective. Depending on the exact fault, board level repair might be possible by someone with the appropriate skills but more likely a new key would be the easiest (and possibly cheaper) route. Unfortunately 'cheaper' is relative; they aren't inexpensive to buy and they can only be coded by a Volvo franchised dealer.
You can't just take the internals from a second hand key.

I had a problem with my keys a couple of years ago
Turned out to be the battery wasn't making a good enough contact inside the fob. (both keys!!) I put a bit of foam in, to press it harder against the contact, and both keys have worked fine ever since. Cheers Dave |

Whereabouts are you? I’ve got equipment which will determine if your key is transmitting a signal so you can narrow down the fault. You’d need to get to me (in a socially distanced way) in Longridge, assuming it’s Preston, Lancs you’re from?
