Default V50 Failed Turbo, Help Please

Hi, first post. Been lurking a while and finally signed up as I need help.....sorry, but hope to become active here from now on...

I have a V50 2007 Estate pre facelift, 1.6 D with DPF and Eolys reservoir.

My turbo has failed. Where it should spin, it doesn’t. Where there should be no play in the shaft, there is. The vanes of the compressor are well mangled too.

There is a leak on no4 injector in the cylinder end so will order new washers for that.

The EGR will be filthy too.

I read somewhere that I should also replace the oil feed pipe for the turbo and that there is a filter in this oil feed pipe somewhere that should be renewed too...

So, I hope somebody can offer some advice in relation to my following questions...

Am I best to buy a fully recon turbo or a core and take the housings off my existing turbo unit and just buy a recon core which would need new compressor and turbine wheels? Either way, where is best to go in terms of cost and a decent quality unit.

Also, the oil feed pipe and the gauzy filter thing in that?

Should I replace the wastegate actuator as well?

Clean the EGR or a new one?

Change DPF?

Car has done 110k miles, dpf never been replaced, eolys refilled at 84k.

Any and all advice would be very warmly welcomed. Thank you to all for reading. 🙂

Just as an add on, I now discovered that the problem was the nut came off the shaft on the compressor end of the turbo and was obviously tried to be ingested by the unit.....ouch.

Still hoping for some advice please guys. Fingers tightly crossed.

Only my (without prejudice!) opinion, and surely not what you will want to hear, but whatever you end up doing, when you have done it get rid. Sounds like money pit territory (to me).

I believe that this engine in a Volvo is supposed to be "better served" during manufacturing by Volvo, but again I believe it is the same engine as fitted to (amongst others) 1.6 Citroen vehicles. Having had some experience (with more than one vehicle) of failed turbo's on these being professionally and properly fettled with brand new (not reconditioned) turbo replacement, oil feed pipe, filter, oil flush etc, only to fail again within a few thousand miles, I would not be tempted to venture down a potentially fruitless road. I too have seen the nut lying inside the turbo.

Sorry, and again only my opinion.
