Volvo C30 1.6D 2010 Loss of Power
Hello,
I am new to this forum and have been experiencing major power loss with my c30 for a few months now after I purchased it. When I am joining the motorway and change to 5th at about 50/60mph, my car will not go past this speed, with full throttle. So I have to knock the gear down to 3, not even 4 will help. Also, if I slow down my car will not pick up and will stay at that speed. Again need to knock it down to 3rd. I have had it plugged in for diagnostic at Volvo Sturgess and got the following codes: 1) 4420 egr position sensor - signal low 2) 2a00 pressure sensor particulate trap - signal too high Please could I get some advice on how to tackle this? I have considered changing the EGR valve because I have been told both faults are arising because of the knackered EGR valve- common fault. Many Thanks, Urvish |

It may do no harm to fit a new EGR valve but if you do make sure its a genuine Volvo OEM one. I fitted an aftermarket one and the problems persisted with the same error codes. After fitting a genuine Volvo one all the errors about anti-skid, EGR signal high/low etc. all vanished and I've had no error codes since.
The Volvo EGR valve is an exchange part so you get a new one but have to take the old one back to the dealer.

Thank you for your reply, so would a delphi electronics/VEMO/Valeo one not be sufficient? I have been told they are OE parts. Or do I get the actual one from Volvo themselves. Thanks |

In honesty, I'd go for the Volvo dealer. If you have the problem I did with and aftermarket one you'll have a harder time returning it than with a Volvo one from Volvo. The car's ECU seems to be pretty picky with what it'll accept.

It sounds like you are in"limp mode", where the ecu is reducing power to protect the engine. Possibly because of a blocked egr problem.
Any warning lights on? |
