My first reaction would be to press the VOC button and get the car recovered. No way would I carry on and then try and video it happening again. That's plain foolish. I may have an issue with Volvo and the dealer!

Exactly - sounds like a case of never letting the truth (or at last the whole truth) get in the way of good story.

Or indeed a good compensation claim.

Compensation, compensation, compensation. I’m just a grumpy old git.

A friend of mine’s nephew works for a legal firm on behalf of the NHS investigating and negotiating negligence claims. Some of the claims are just mind boggling. Not genuine cases but cases put forward by the No Win, No Pay brigade. Allegedly.

On a point mentioned by an earlier poster has anyone actually tried applying the electronic brake at any speed. Any time I’ve applied it at a crawl the result has been so violent I’ve not had the courage to do so at any speed.

Agree with Boatie, I can't imagine trying to use the EPB to slow the car down unless it is really the absolute last resort to prevent a serious crash. I can only imagine that it would instantly lock the real wheels, not that I have tried it but you have no control over it, just on or off.

Confused.
The guy makes a large play with his child's mental state but is considering a BMW which had a widespread braking issue of its own.
Audi have also had problems.

If you really were that concerned about absolute certainty, you wouldn't buy anything.

The abs system might kick in even when using the epb to prevent locking up, applying the epb at low speed may have a more dramatic pull up than at speed due to the momentum.

Don't know what car you tested this on but all modern cars w. electronic parking brake will apply the hand brake as gently as if you were using the foot brake- and they will even light up the brake lights for you. Eg: https://youtu.be/1m5Hi0QIo5U Also, unlike the manual handbrake, electronic handbrake emergency deployment brakes all 4 wheels.

I did a Land Rover experience a few years back in a Disco 4. They demonstrated this feature on the road at some speed - 40ish MPH perhaps. Pulled the EPB up and held it - almost went through the windscreen but the car stopped very quickly, in a straight line with no locking of any wheels.

I've assumed the Volvo is the same but I've never tested it...
