Default Bonnet doesnt want to close sometimes

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if they have had a similar problem with their V40 and if they managed to fix it. Some times it does not catch properly and pops back open and other times it closes but will open with a little bit of a tug? Anoying!

can anyone help

Hi tommyjumbo

Have you had a look at the bump stops on the bonnet to make sure they're not out too far? They can stop it closing a bit.

Try adjusting up the catch, its only on a few screws I think! Maybe countersunk hex - try bringing it up just a touch (5mm) set the bumps right and see how you go.

thanks for your reply, Are you refering to the bits attached to the hood or the bits near the radiator (trying not to sound to thick and failing)

The bonnet not closing is a good sign of the bonnet catch needing regreasing. Give it a spray of WD40 to see if it improves. If its does need regreasing but is left it will help snap the bonnet release cable which is a right bugger to replace.

tommyjumbo - I'm refering to the rubber bits on the bonnet itself.

I agree that spraying of the catch is a good idea. If you have an alarm, be careful of the little reed switch there too!

I had this trouble once on my wifes car and the bonnet catch jammed closed. The catch was sticking and had a mega job to eventually get it open. You should clean the catch slides and then apply grease and also lubricate the cable.
Best of luck.
